Silence

Silence
Pause
The space between
These are words I am sitting with right now. So much change. Elections. Children. Aging parents. Aging self. And sometimes it can all feel a bit much, but then, there is the pause.
The recognition of mystery. The letting go of needing to know. Silence.
This morning my yoga teacher spoke of Samāna (समान) which means “balanced” or “strength through centering” and recognizes the strength already contained within. And this strength is remembered by breathing deep into the belly. There we find our source. In the silence of our breath.
And poetry. Always poetry, especially the poets that acknowledge mystery and silence and longing. For me, this always begins and ends with Rilke, who said of silence, since I’ve learned to be silent, everything has come so much closer to me.
Silence. Breath. Gathering together in one’s core. Grounding.
May we find peace in this space.
