Ancient Beckoning

Something ancient beckons us, a haunting that we usually ignore for our fear of the unknown. Sometimes it whispers, you too can bend life at whim like Gaia, write an obituary to the past version of yourself like Nyx, so why don’t you try it for a while? “A Mortal Interlude”, Nikita Gill

I am obsessed with all things goddess at the moment! And I start most mornings by dipping my poetic toe in Nikita Gill’s collection Great Goddesses. Yesterday I read the above quotation, and it sent my head spinning. And my heart racing.

Because it rang too true.

Because I (and I think I'm not the only one) feel something very old calling to me. That something old I call the soul. What makes it unknown isn’t the fact that I don't know my soul or that I have to go out on some trekking vacation to discover it. What makes it unknown is that I have silenced huge swathes of my psyche—the crazy dancer girl, the intellectual, the fierce warrior, the hurt little girl. What is unknown is experiencing and honoring and listening to all of them.

So, when I came across this poem, I thought, yes--what an amazing ritual. You may not want to write an obituary the old version of you, but what about creating your own ritual! Explore the many voices inside you are reacquainting yourself with. And give them expression--through dance, painting, singing, writing.

How beautiful is your beautiful complex soul!

Have a lovely week
